Donald Duck never sang ‘Springtime for Hitler'—that was Dick Shawn
in the Mel Brooks spoof The Producers . But Donald came
close to it once, even if you'd never know it from watching the Disney
Channel. In fact, Disney would just as soon people forget the “hard” propaganda
films the studio made for the U.S. government during World War II.
Your local Blockbuster won't stock these titles because of their “negative
racial caricatures,” which the folks who once
brought you Mary Poppins now find embarrassing. Today the studio holds
tighter control over the films than Scrooge McDuck hoarding a wooden nickel.
To put it bluntly, they're banned...
